Etretat cliffs

The Alabaster Coast owes its name to the 140 km of chalky cliffs between the Estuary of the Seine and that of the Somme. It is in Etretat that these cliffs are the most picturesque: they surprise the visitor by their cutting and confront him with a wild beauty and a little austere.

Other information

There are two ways to discover this site: from the city center to the cliffs, or from the cliffs to the city center. In the second case, you can be dropped off at the end of the Gulf of Etretat and come back by foot on the cliff edge which runs along the Gulf of Etretat. This is the most natural way to discover a future "Grand Site de France". But this way requires to be at least equipped with adequate shoes because it is a path of seaside, not a seafront promenade in a city. Count between 80 and 120 minutes of walking depending on your quality of hikers. For information, about halfway there is a steep drop down AND up.

If you prefer to leave the city, you can choose to be dropped near the beach or the parking of the Town Hall (near the main shopping street) or on the parking of the upstream cliff, near the church of the sailors. From the church of the sailors, you will discover directly the extent of the reputation of the site and you will have in front of you a staircase arranged to go down on the beach and to discover the city thereafter and the downstream cliff (close to the golf course).
